The Broad Ripple Condom Thief

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Via WISH TV:

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Metro Police are looking for a man who gave a Broad Ripple security guard a hard time while stealing several boxes of condoms from grocery store.

Officers were called around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to the Marsh supermarket located at 2350 Broad Ripple Avenue. The security guard told investigators he witnessed a man shoving several boxes of condoms down his pants.

The guard told police he initially followed the man to the prophylactic aisle because the man matched the description of the suspect in a previous condom theft at the Marsh.

Wow. Is a 45-year old man is either embarrassed to buy condoms or find himself a place that gives them away for free?

Standoff with police closes I-69 at 116th Street

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Via my WISH TV 8 alerts:

Fishers police have closed down I-69 in both directions at 116th Street.

According to Fishers police, a complaint about the driver of the vehicle led to police stopping the vehicle in question. The person in the vehicle is thought to be emotionally unstable and was refusing to exit the vehicle. 24 Hour News 8 Jim Shella reported that after a brief standoff, police shot out one of the windows on the truck and then were able to remove the suspect from the vehicle.

I-69 is still closed between I-465 and State Route 238. Visit WISHTV.com for the latest updates and traffic information on this breaking story.

People are losing their minds, but knowing how people drive on that stretch I’m actually surprised that this hasn’t happened sooner. I vote they rename I-69 The Interstate of Death and Insanity.

Teen Pregnancy Pact?

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Via WISH TV 8

Word of the pregnancy pact comes from the principal of Gloucester High School. Joseph Sullivan tells Time magazine in a story published this week that the girls confessed to making the pact after the school began investigating. Seventeen girls there are pregnant, and Sullivan says nearly half were involved in the pact — none more than 16 years old.

This truly bothers me on so many levels.

First, say the “pact” is true, why in the world would you think that’s a good idea?  Teenagers girls seem to have more, how to phrase it, emotional/self-esteem issues than most teenage boys do (from what you can “see”).  But come on, this is just ludicrous and I hope that it is untrue.

Second, and just as disturbing, is the mere fact of so many pregnancies in one high school.  That is just baffling.  I went to an “inner-city” (a.k.a. “urban”) high school with a few thousand students and there were only a handful each year (which is still too many IMO).

Anyway, I’m floored and am just scratching my head as this is outright crazy.  I thought that normal kids these days rebelled by piercing something, dying their hair and wearing certain clothing.  I thought that we as adults (parents, relatives, etc) were educating the younger generations about the dangers of sex, drugs, tobacco and alcohol.  But maybe I’m wrong?  I just pray that I do a half-way decent job parenting my children so that they know that dear old dad isn’t being mean or trying to thwart their fun, but to instead protect them.
